Hi! Welcome. Thanks for stopping by.
I
want to change the way medicine is done. Remember the old days, when you'd get sick and go see ol'
Doc Baker? Maybe at their house? Maybe they'd make a house call? Maybe they would actually know who
you are? No? Well, sadly neither do I.
I want to change all of that. When did medicine become
so depersonalized and detached? Profits before patients? Pills before prevention?
These
days, you might see a doctor for two or three minutes, they'll give you a prescription and send you on your way.
I want to do more than that. I want to get to know you, to learn about the problem and come
to a rational approach that we both agree upon. If you want a doctor who is going to take a quick look at your runny nose,
give you a prescription for a potentially unneccesarry (or harmful) antibiotic an send you on your way, I am NOT the doctor
for you.
I like educated and informed patients. I enjoy learning from my patients. Contrary
to what many doctors would like you to believe, we don't actually know everything. I am always grateful
when a patient brings something to my attention that I had been previously unaware of. I will always research these
things myself and get back to you with my own take on the source material. We'll work together as a team
to come to a safe, effective and rational treatment that we are all happy with. Of course, I also like to help
patients who have no interest in spending hours on the internet researching their condition and just want to let the doctor
worry about that!
I've worked as an emergency physician throughout Los Angeles since 2001.
I trained and received Board Certification in Emergency Medicine at LA County - Harbor - UCLA Medical Center. I now
teach medical students and residents at that institution as a member of the Clinical Faculty in the Department of Emergency
Medicine. Prior to residency I attended the Chicago Medical School where I served as Student Council President and was
elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.
I have lived downtown since 2003. I am a
firm believer in downtown as a community and have been proud to watch it grow and gel into a cohesive neighborhood
over the past few years. After running my practice in West Hollywood for the first year, I decided to invest in Downtown
LA and move my practice to my home community.
As a native
New Yorker who has lived in Chicago, the Bay Area and now Los Angeles for the past seven years, I've seen and heard
it all. Prior to my medical training, I was a paramedic in New York City for four years. I've worked with
and treated people from around the globe and in every niche and corner of socierty. You can be confident that you
will receive non judgmental and empathetic care at all times, regardless of your personal history, medical condition, body
type, lifestyle, identity, or any other aspect of who you are.
I am also a musician, producer and
performance artist in the community. I enjoy travel to local and faraway places, design and modern art, skiing
and hiking. You may see me riding my yellow converted mountain bike with a milk crate on the back on any given day
– do say hello!
My practice is not like other typical medical offices. I work alone,
have no office staff, answer the phone, manage the e-mail and website, handle the scheduling and basically every other aspect
of the practice. It is very hands on. You have direct access to me at all times. I
am YOUR doctor.
In order to maximize efficiency and minimize red tape and other restrictions placed on
doctors by increasingly greedy insurance carriers, I am not able to accept insurance or offer a sliding scale or payment
plan at this time. All visits must be paid for at the time of service, by check, cash or charge. Lab
work and other services such as x-rays can be covered by insurance. I can also provide you with an itemized
bill that you can submit for reimbursement.
Please check my rate page. I think you'll find my
rates very reasonable. In exchange for eliminating any billing costs or time spent billing your insurance,
I try to keep my costs reasonable and fair. You may find that the convenience of a local downtown doctor and the personal
level of service more than offset this increased out of pocket cost for an office visit.
I am looking forward
to meeting you. Please visit my services page to learn more about what I can do for you. It is an honor
and a privilege to proudly serve as the growing downtown community's first country doctor.
